Artist Statement:
I think that my work is created to be pretty and practical. The work that I make I want it to be something that others can get inspiration from. I don’t want my work to be something that people put on a shelf and then forget about, only to remember it when they go to clean that space. I hope that my art is something that others can use. My goal for my art is to be something that others get inspiration from or it creates feelings. So far all of the work that I have created gives off happy and relaxing feelings that can brighten others day.
I think that most of my work is everyday things that you see and hear but on something that you wouldn't expect. One example of this is the zipper on the mug. It could make you think: “why is there a zipper on a mug?” or “who would put a zipper on a mug?” On my tiles I put suns and moons and flowers. All of my work has a real life inspiration. If my work is not like a real life thing I like to make them intricate designs that look hard to make, but really are not. I love the designs that are small and overlooked. Swirls, bricks and optical illusion the more intricate to form the better. Most of these types of patterns are repeating.
Some of the issues I have when creating work is coming up with ideas. Sometime I come up with an idea that I like but most of the time I realize I can’t do them. Sometimes I really can’t do them because they don’t fit the requirements of the project that I’m doing. Other times I can’t figure out how to do them.
In the future I hope to keep improving my art skills. I want my skills to be at a level where they are practical, but not at a level where my art would end up in a museum. Right now I am still learning about what it is that I can and can’t do as an artist. The things that I am learning right now will play into how and what I decide to do with my artistic skills. I am at the stage where I am finding out where I want to go in my art career. I’m still trying to decide whether or not I want to continue with ceramics or leave my skills where they are at. If I had to guess I don’t think that I really would do much with it
